“Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, and waste its sweetness on the desert air”. This quote from a poem by Thomas Gray I read years ago frequently runs through my mind as I walk or run along the quiet country roads where I live. The wildflowers in the ditches around me are some of the prettiest things nobody sees because when you’re in your car, it’s impossible to take note of their beauty and design. But when you're on your feet with no time constraint it’s easy to stop and see. This is where my mind drifted and wandered as I began thinking about this collection. The details in what I found as I looked a little closer Is what you will see translated in this clothing line. This is where I invite you, to stop and look a little closer.
Rachel is an artist/designer/nurse who was born in the prairie lands of South Dakota. She was heavily influenced in sewing by her grandma who made a living sewing quilts and garments, and her mother who sewed all her and her sister’s cloths. She always had a desire and dream to grow her skills in design, but choose a different path in healthcare to support herself. But this desire never left her, and after many years and a start at the Academy of Arts University in San Fransisco, she was led to the program at MCTC. It has been her miracle program as she had told herself when leaving San Francisco she would only go back to school if she found a technical college with a solid program in apparel design. She looks forward to the opportunities and doors which will open as a result. She gives a special thanks to all the people who have supported her and spoken into her life through the years, namely her family, husband, friends and church family. Thank you to her models Madelyn, Mercedez, Ava and Saeteesh. And a heartfelt thank you to all the instructors at MCTC, Vicki, Renalie, Melissa, Amanda, Damon and Mark for passing on your wealth of knowledge and broadening her horizons.
