SCHERT First Look

For this design I flatlined the bodysuit to create a unique fabric. I took a burnout lace fabric and hand basted it on top of a sequin net fabric. Once the bodysuit was sewn together, I then removed the hand basting to then have the two fabrics simulate one fabric.

For the skirt I wanted it to have movement. By taking three different Silk Organza fabrics (each with a two-color tone effect) and layering them on top of each other I made the base of the skirt. I then ripped vertical slits into each layer, spacing them differently on each layer and with different amounts of space in between each of them.

The top is a blue green color shift fabric cut as a sleeveless high collar blouse. With two under bust darts to extenuate the femme figure.

The skirt is an orange to green color shift metallic silk. Pleated into a cupcake shape.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Cupcakes, icecream, and macaroons have always ignited my tastbuds and delighted my eyes. So when I saw them recently in bright rainbow colors I felt inspired to create clothes that satisfy your sweet tooth. In doing so I want to show that you can indulge yourself in fashion not just food. As a plus size fempresenting person it's hard to find clothes that are fashionable and colorful, so I want to show that no matter your body size you can look good, have fun, and be colorful.

ARTIST BIO

Karlee found her passion for sewing in middle school when she on a whim helped out with sewing fring on skirts for a play. Learning from her grandmother and thru school she found joy in creating wearable peices. She won a cosplay (costume) contest at Suncoast in the summer of 2007 that she only prepared for in a week. Which brought her to a love of alternative fashion and the art of recreating character's outfits.
